Assets
Objective
To develop and deliver a program of research that will assist road and transport agencies in their efforts to minimise the whole of life cost of road infrastructure assets.
The assets strategic research program is targeted to address the priorities identified in the Austroads Strategic Plan.
Key themes
- Optimal levels of service
- Road user requirements
- Monitoring and performance reporting
In addition, Austroads has recognised the importance of maintaining a minimum level of technical research capacity within Australia, across key research areas, so it can be available to meet future requirements of road agencies. Austroads has therefore committed to support technical research by ARRB Group in four identified areas to retain relevant expertise, both through the retention of existing skilled staff and the recruitment of new staff to develop appropriate skills.
The four identified areas are:
- bituminous surfacings
- pavement structures
- asset management
- engineering safety.
Task force and review panel
The role of the assets task force is to develop and deliver a program of research that will assist road and transport agencies in their efforts to minimise the whole of life cost of road infrastructure assets, and as a review panel to promote best practice in asset management through the development and maintenance of the Austroads Guide to Asset Management. The assets task force also incorporates the functions of the assets review panel.
