Austroads has published an updated edition of the Guide to Pavement Technology Part 4C: Materials for Concrete Road Pavements.
The Guide summarises Australian and New Zealand practice in the use of materials for:
- base concrete and lean-mix concrete subbase
- concrete curing compounds
- steel reinforcement including tie bars and dowel bars
- joint sealants and fillers.
Unbound granular materials, cemented materials and asphalt may also be associated with concrete road pavements. The requirements for these materials are discussed in other parts of the Guide.
This second edition of the Guide includes editorial changes and minor technical changes throughout; updated references to relevant standards; and changes to Section 3.5 Cementitious Binders, Section 4.4 Trial Mix Process and Section 5.2 Reinforcement.
This edition was written by George Vorobieff, Head to Head International and Michael Moffatt, ARRB. The project was managed by Andrew Papacostas, VicRoads.
The hard copy can be purchased for $33 (+postage and handling) and the PDF for $26.40.
Austroads members can download PDF versions of the Guides for free. This includes all state and territory road agencies and local councils in Australia and New Zealand.
Webinar: Pavement Design - Guide to Pavement Technology Parts 2 and 4C (2017 Editions)
This webinar, presented on 9 March 2018, provides an overview of the major changes to the design of heavy-duty flexible pavements, including the new: axle-strain approach central to the mechanistic-empirical design method, definitions of design traffic, and characterisation of cemented material and asphalt. The webinar was presented by Dr Michael Moffatt. Download the presentation slides.
