Weigh-in-motion Resources

Weigh-in-motion (WIM) is the process of measuring the dynamic tyre forces of a moving vehicle and estimating the corresponding tyre loads of the static vehicle.

The information collected from WIM systems are crucial for asset management, traffic operations, freight management, safety and enforcement.

The  Weigh-in-motion (WIM) web site developed by Austroads as a repository of knowledge about this specialized and critical area is being redeveloped.

The content of the website reflects the Austroads Weigh-in-Motion Management and Operation Manual released in 2010. This report can be downloaded free-of-charge after logging into the publications website.

The few existing road agency WIM experts are mostly close to retirement and there is currently no training available in this area.

The sites brings together information from government and industry experts with a focus on on-road technologies.
