NEVDIS

NEVDIS support

NEVDIS (National Exchange of Vehicle and Driver Information System) is the database of driver and vehicle information of states and territories in Australia.  It also maintains the national Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) database and the national Written Off Vehicle Register (WOVR) database.

Responsibility for NEVDIS comes within the Austroads Registration and Licensing Program. It is managed by the NEVDIS Administration Unit (NAU) which is located at and supported by RMS NSW.

The NAU responds to the day-to-day operational demands of jurisdictions’ registration and licensing agencies, vehicle manufacturers/importers and police in relation to driver and vehicle management issues. There is also a relationship with the Commonwealth Attorney General’s Department in relation to Document Verification Service (DVS) for the security of personal identity and Personal Property Security Register (PPSR) enabling the general public to access information about their vehicles.

The NAU assists road authorities and vehicle manufacturers in the exchange of vehicle and driver information. State and territory authorities are the source of NEVDIS data and the primary point of contact for enquiries, errors and corrections. (see customer service contacts list)

Enquiries should be directed:

  • For vehicle registration and driver licence enquiries, contact customer services within your state or territory road authority.
  • For VIN enquiries contact the Vehicle Identification section within your state or territory road authority.
  • For Tolling contact the Tolling section within your state or territory road authority.
  • For PPSR enquiries contact the National Service Centre on 1300 007 777 or alternatively email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
