Austroads to launch nine new guides

Austroads will be officially launching its comprehensive range of road industry guides in July, 2009. Covering the complete gamut of road design, construction, maintenance and operation, the guides provide cutting edge information regarding the road network.

The comprehensive library consists of nine Austroads guides and will be utilised by road authorities in Australia and New Zealand. All Austroads member organisations have agreed to adopt Austroads guides as the basis of their operations.

There is a guide on each of the following: Asset Management, Bridge Technology, Pavement Technology, Project Delivery, Project Evaluation, Road Design, Road Safety, Road Transport Planning and Traffic Management. A Road Tunnels guide will be released by June 2010.

The official launch of the Austroads' guides is on 1 July, 2009. It will be held at the ARRB Group's offices in Vermont South, Melbourne.

The launch event will provide an overview of the guides covering their purpose and objectives, approach to their development, the role of ARRB, the types of new guides, the relationship to earlier Austroads material, and arrangements for updating the new guides.

There will also be detailed presentations on a selection of the guides including:

▪ Road Safety
▪ Asset Management
▪ Road Design
▪ Pavement Technology
▪ Traffic Management.

These presentations will outline what's new in these guides, some specifics on their content and how they will affect and influence the road agencies in Australia and New Zealand in road network matters.
