Expression of Interest to Submit for Pre-qualified Road Design Guidance Expert Panel

Purpose:

The purpose of this request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) is to identify appropriately qualified and motivated practitioners to contribute to ongoing development and maintenance of the Austroads Guide to Road Design (AGRD) through membership of a new Road Design Guidance Expert Panel (Panel).

Scope and methodology:

Austroads seeks expressions of interest to join the Road Design Guidance Expert Panel from suitably motivated and qualified road design professionals with specialisation and experience in one or more of the following areas of expertise:

  • Geometric design – intersections
  • Geometric design – roundabouts
  • Geometric design – interchange
  • Hydrology and drainage
  • Roadsides
  • Road safety barriers
  • Temporary works
  • Road design in streets contexts, including the integration of and interface with Place functions
  • Road design for high function, high capacity and/or high speed
  • Road design for lower volume roads and remote areas
  • Design objectives and outcomes
  • Design for active transport (walking and cycling)
  • Interface between transport planning and road design
  • Interface between transport operations and road design
  • Incorporation of the Safe System into road design
  • Development and writing of design guidance.

Austroads intends to form the Panel with coverage across the areas identified above. Some experts may have nominated coverage of more than one area and some areas may have more than one nominated expert (see Panel Format below). If successful, experts will be advised of which specialised areas they have been accepted to advise upon.

Objectives:

The Panel seeks to provide:

  • Austroads with access to the necessary expertise to develop and maintain best practice road design guidance, and
  • Individuals and their employers a mechanism by which they can actively contribute to development of road design guidance without substantial opportunity cost to alternative commercial opportunities.

Austroads has recently conducted a strategic review of road design guidance, which has identified a number of opportunities to strengthen the way the AGRD is developed and maintained. We suggest that interested road design professionals attend a webinar on 23 April that will describe this review and outline some of the opportunities Austroads will be pursuing in coming years.

Austroads will host an MS Teams video conference at 12 noon, Monday 29 April 2024, for interested parties to ask questions about the brief. Please refer to the Notice on the tender advertisement for details on how to attend.

Closing date: Friday 3 May 2024 – 4PM Australian Eastern Standard Time.

Expressions of Interest (EOI) – Vendor and Service Provider Industry Reference Group for NEG6440 Classification Scheme Proof-of-Concept

This request for Expressions of Interest (EOI) seeks to identify vendors and service providers interested in participating in an Industry Reference Group (IRG) for project NEG6440.

Austroads is undertaking project NEG6440 to:

  • Support road managers to obtain accurate insights into current usage of their networks for a range of different vehicle types, including the utilisation of evolving data collection technologies.
  • Identify suitable solution(s) for bicycle (and micromobility) detection systems at traffic signalised intersections.

Austroads will publish an updated classification scheme that evolves the recently published Austroads-23 scheme and which includes a full set of road user types, from heavy vehicles through to active transport.

The primary purpose of the IRG is to provide industry feedback during the development and refinement of the classification scheme and supporting implementation guidance, along with research outputs for bicycle detection.

A secondary purpose of the IRG is to facilitate involvement of interested vendors and service in the field testing activities within NEG6440. It will remain at the discretion of NEG6440 IRG members as to whether they wish to participate in the field testing.

The IRG will be a voluntary, unpaid group to complement the delivery packages by consultants who will retain full accountability for their work. The IRG is a consultative feedback forum and does not have a formal approval function.

Closing date: Friday 26 April 2024 – 4PM Australian Eastern Standard Time.
